Before publishing: replace [OPERATOR], [CONTACT EMAIL] and [COUNTRY] throughout, and confirm the third-party list below matches the scripts actually installed under Admin → Settings → Scripts. This is a drafted policy based on what the site's code does, not legal advice — have it reviewed before relying on it.
This policy explains what predictions.bet collects, why, and what you can do about it.
The short version: you can browse the entire site without an account and without giving us anything beyond the technical basics every website receives. We do not sell your data, and we never take payments or hold funds — we are an information site, not a trading venue.
What we collect
If you only browse
- Technical request data — your IP address, browser type and the pages you request. This is ordinary web-server logging, needed to serve the site and to detect abuse.
- Approximate country. We look up the country for your IP address so we can show relevant markets and apply any regional restrictions. The lookup is performed by a third-party service (see below).
- A session cookie, which keeps your session working and protects forms against cross-site request forgery.
- Search terms you type into the site's own search box, stored so we can see which markets people look for. Terms that match automated attack patterns are discarded rather than stored.
If you create an account
- Email address and, if you register with a password, a securely hashed version of it. We never store your password in readable form.
- A display name, derived from your email address if you don't choose one.
- Your newsletter preference and the time you consented.
- Country, derived as above.
- How you signed up (for example from the welcome pop-up or the registration page).
- If you use Google sign-in: your Google account identifier and the email address on that account. We do not receive your Google password.
- Prediction credits ("points") and the activity that earned them, where that feature is enabled.
Why we use it
| Purpose | What it covers |
|---|---|
| Running the site | Serving pages, keeping you signed in, remembering preferences |
| Security | Rate limiting, bot detection, blocking automated abuse of forms and search |
| Your account | Authentication, password resets, email verification |
| Email you asked for | The weekly digest and service messages, if you opted in |
| Improving the site | Aggregate statistics on which markets and searches are popular |
| Legal and regional compliance | Applying restrictions where required |
Where the law requires a legal basis (for example under the UK and EU GDPR), we rely on: performance of a contract for account features, consent for marketing email, and legitimate interests for security, abuse prevention and aggregate analytics.
Who we share it with
We do not sell personal data and we do not share it for other companies' advertising. We do use service providers who process data on our behalf:
- Our hosting provider, which stores the database and serves the site.
- An IP geolocation service (ip-api.com), which receives your IP address in order to return a country code.
- Cloudflare Turnstile, used on sign-up forms to tell humans from bots. Cloudflare receives the challenge token and your IP address.
- Our email provider, which receives your email address in order to deliver account and newsletter messages.
- Google, if you choose Google sign-in.
- Any analytics or similar scripts the site has installed. These are listed in the site's script settings and may set their own cookies.
Affiliate links
Links to prediction-market platforms may be affiliate or referral links, which means we may be paid if you sign up or trade after following one. This never changes what the odds data says, and it costs you nothing. Outbound links of this kind pass through a /go/ redirect on our domain so we can count the click — that redirect records the click, not your identity.
Cookies
We use a session cookie for the basics described above, and your browser's local storage to remember small preferences, such as whether you have already seen the welcome pop-up. Third-party scripts installed on the site may set additional cookies. You can clear or block cookies in your browser, though sign-in will stop working if you block ours.
How long we keep things
- Account data: for as long as your account exists.
- Search logs: retained to analyse demand; they are not linked to you unless you were signed in when you searched.
- Server and security logs: kept for a limited period for troubleshooting and abuse prevention.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, correct it, delete it, object to or restrict how we use it, receive it in a portable form, and withdraw consent at any time. You can unsubscribe from the newsletter using the link in any email, or by turning the option off in your account. If you believe we have mishandled your data, you can complain to your local data protection authority.
Children
This site is not intended for anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect data from children. Prediction markets carry financial risk and are age-restricted on the platforms themselves.
Security
Passwords are stored hashed, the site is served over HTTPS, sign-up forms are protected against automated abuse, and administrative access is restricted. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable measures appropriate to the data we hold.
Changes
We may update this policy as the site changes. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last revised.
